Thomas Wood was born in Richland, Washington in 1951. He attended Washington State University and The Cornish Institute before acquiring his Fine Arts Degree from Fairhaven College of Western Washington University.
Since 1973, Wood has been sharing his sublime view of the world through his mastery in painting, drawing, and printmaking. Although Wood's art is contemporary and American, its consciousness belongs more to the European alchemists of the 17th century. It is mystical, intricate, and richly symbolic. Much like Hieronymous Bosch (late 15th century), Wood depicts both the inner (psychological) and outer (physical) realms of existence in his work. As Lois Alan* states in her essays about his work, “Wood is undeniably “visionary” and his “singular vision is demonstrated in images that graphically connect the recognizable, real world to the invisible world within his imagination.”.
Wood has generated 34 solo exhibits, as well as participating in over 50 group shows throughout the United States, Canada and Europe. His work can be found in many prominent collections ranging from New York City to Florence, Italy.
