Ross Penhall presents mysterious landscapes informed by local and international travels. Seeking to unveil the spirit of the place as opposed to merely replicating it, his rolling hills, expansive trees and vibrant skies serve as a brief reminder that nature cannot be entirely maintained. Rhythms of solid undulating form come together to mix with rich colour and sharp contrasts to create incredibly solid compositions, earning him comparisons to past masters such as Grant Wood and members of the Group of Seven.

Steve Driscoll explores the minute nature of humanity against the grand vistas of western Canada in his latest series of paintings. References to man, such as tents, bridges and trails, are dwarfed by immense landscapes inspired by Toronto-based Driscoll’s recent travels through BC and Alberta. Using unconventional and industrial materials, Driscoll creates colourful and visceral paintings that explore the relationship between abstraction and representation.
